This is my favorite part of the year. Since winter is nearly over, there’s this feeling of accomplishment that overcomes me. Like I’ve survived or somehow made it through the tough times and it’s all blue skies from here on out. March also brings SxSW, an annual festival of things that help make life worth living . . . movies, music and the Web. Tantek has some ideas on what to pack and I was pleasantly surprised that I included most of what is on that list (I’m not married to black), including the Airport Express. Wireless in the room is spotty and being able to chill on the bed with Three’s Company beaming from the box is much better than being chained to a desk on my vacation. I can’t believe I forgot a friggin hoodie though!
If you are new to Austin and looking for a place to eat, make sure you check out:
1. Gueros – Taco Bar
2. Texas Chili Parlor – Nothing fancy including the food, but a landmark.
3. Kyoto Japanese Restaurant – No Sushi Nazi here. Just good food.
4. Alamo Drafthouse – It’s moved from its original location. But settle down with your favorite bar food, a glass of beer (I’m not talking a paper cup) and a movie from the SXSW film festival.
